React Well First Aid Training offers practical, face-to-face Allergy Awareness and Emergency Response Training for Schools, designed to support the staff training element of the guidance linked to Benedict’s Law.
In just one hour, staff can build their understanding of allergies and anaphylaxis, learn what to do in an emergency and gain practical experience using trainer adrenaline auto-injectors.
What is Benedict’s Law?
Benedict’s Law is named in memory of five-year-old Benedict Blythe, who died following an allergic reaction at school in 2021.
The Department for Education’s allergy guidance focuses on a whole-school approach to allergy safety. This includes clear allergy policies, staff training, emergency response planning, awareness of pupils with severe allergies and clear processes for managing risk throughout the school day.
This means allergy safety goes beyond designated first aiders. The adult closest to a child during an allergic reaction could be a teacher, teaching assistant, lunchtime supervisor, member of the office or kitchen team, caretaker, sports coach or another member of school staff.
